Intruction to the Conceptual portrait. June 15th 2019

225.00

Saturday June 15th 10am-4pm

Photographs of people can have meaning that transcends beyond the identity if the individual portrayed.  This class will explore ideas and concepts artists can use to make statements through their photography using the portrait as the base genre.

During the day you will learn about portrait photography, view a demonstration of Ray’s techniques for conceptual portraits, work with Ray to make portraits with a professional model in my backyard studio.

A follow up session with a date to be determined: Ray will lead a review of student work.

Optional Homework: Students can make portraits on their own during the week and bring them to the final class for review.

Topics for the day will include:

  • pose and gesture

  • mood

  • concept and ideas

  • lighting

  • working with models, amateur and professional

  • finding models to work with and space to rent for projects

A critique session will be scheduled in the weeks following the session for anyone who would like feedback on the work they have made.
